What Our Champions Are Saying

"We know that there has been a steady stream of migrants over the past several years who have journeyed to the United States through the southern border at or near Laredo. We understand that the vast majority of them are seeking asylum, and that they often arrive hungry, tired, and in need of a hot shower and a place to rest before they continue their journey. Some of them are injured or ill, and many arrive with trauma due to persecution in their home countries, compounded by a difficult and dangerous journey to the U.S. border. The Jones Day Foundation has long supported the work of various pro bono legal service organizations assisting these migrants in understanding the U. S. asylum process. We are thrilled to be able to expand our support to helping realize a facility that can be used for provision of all of these needed services. As detailed in our grant letter…, the Jones Day Foundation is committed to supporting this new facility through a grant of $1,000,000." - The Jones Day Foundation

"Together we shall build the new humanitarian center so we can continue to make visible the hands and heart of the Risen Christ. This is indeed our call. I see the face of the crucified Christ in our migrant guests each time I visit the shelter. It is with and for Christ that we build this center." - Bishop James Tamayo, Diocese of Laredo

"Choosing to participate in building the new humanitarian center in Laredo is a radical act of hope. Our true nature is one of belonging to each other, and the ministry of La Frontera embodies our common humanity by caring for our migrant brothers and sisters in their time of need. This is a life-giving project worth supporting." -Kerry Alys Robinson, President & CEO of Catholic Charities USA

"J.E. and L.E. Mabee cared about providing security to vulnerable people and cared about those who faced obstacles in moving forward in life. J.E. Mabee loved to help give people a ‘leg up.’ The Mabee Foundation believes the new Humanitarian Center for Catholic Charities will both meet the immediate needs of the most vulnerable and play a role in helping them achieve a full, satisfying and safe life, and we are honored to be a part of this project." Michael Goeke, Executive Director of THE MABEE FOUNDATION
